Alberg
Seattle venture capitalist Tom Alberg is one of more than two dozen high-tech leaders to be named to the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, an effort by President Barack Obama to spur innovation and jobs in the U.S. economy.
Alberg -- a managing director at Madrona Venture Group and a board member at Amazon.com -- joins a distinguished group of tech leaders on the council. Other members include former AOL CEO Steve Case; Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang; and Zipcar co-founder Robin Chase.
The announcement was made today at the University of Michigan by U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, the former governor of Washington state.
"America's innovation engine is not as efficient or as effective as it needs to be, and we are not creating as many jobs as we should," Locke said in a release. "We must get better at connecting the great ideas to the great company builders. The National Advisory Council will help the administration develop a broader strategy to spur innovation and enable entrepreneurs to develop breakthrough technologies and dynamic companies, and to create jobs all across America."
President Obama is looking at ways to spur innovation, designating $100 billion of The Recovery Act to support new technologies in healthcare, clean tech, transportation and other field. And last year Obama create the National Innovation Strategy, which called for doubling the budget of the National Science Foundation.
