Last year, after closing the development studio behind the Microsoft Flight Simulator game, the company hinted that it wasn't done with the franchise. Microsoft job postings earlier this year provided further evidence. And this morning, the company confirmed its plans, announcing that it's working on a "new entry inspired by the best-selling Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise."
The news was included in a larger press release about the reinvention of another favorite franchise, the Age of Empires real-time strategy game, which is being updated with new online features. Microsoft made the announcements at the Gamescom 2010 conference in Germany.
Few details of Microsoft Flight were announced, other than the fact that it will be a Windows PC game with online features (under the Games for Windows LIVE brand). Microsoft is teasing the game on this page, with a preview video and a message that says the game will "bring a new perspective to the long-standing genre."
