In case you missed it last week, we've started a new weekly segment on our podcast: TechFlash Trivia. Each week, in the final segment of the show, we'll pose a trivia question and invite you to submit your answer here on the site. Out of the pool of correct answers, we'll draw people at random each week to receive the prize of a limited edition TechFlash shirt.
We've updated last week's post with the answer to our previous question about the origins of Nintendo's iconic Mario character, and the first winners of the shirts.
This week's question delves into the nuances of Google's corporate culture, and specifically the Boeing 767 party plane that founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin were reported to have purchased for themselves a few years back. Here it is ...
What unusual piece of furniture did Larry and Sergey want installed in their plane?
As I mention during the podcast, many people familiar with this subject may be tempted to give the answer of a California King bed, but in fact there was an even more unusual type of furniture that the Google founders requested at one point. (It's not clear if this furniture actually was installed, or just requested.)
Click here to submit your answer via email, and check back next weekend for the answer. Thanks for playing TechFlash Trivia, and good luck!
Update, Sept. 4: The answer: Hammocks. From a 2006 Wall Street Journal story:
(Aviation designer Leslie) Jennings says Messrs. Brin and Page "had some strange requests," including hammocks hung from the ceiling of the plane. At one point he witnessed a dispute between them over whether Mr. Brin should have a "California king" size bed, he says. Mr. Jennings says Mr. Schmidt stepped in to resolve that by saying, "Sergey, you can have whatever bed you want in your room; Larry, you can have whatever kind of bed you want in your bedroom. Let's move on." Mr. Jennings says Mr. Schmidt at another point told him, "It's a party airplane."
Thanks to everyone who submitted answers. Many people got this one correct. From the pool of correct answers, we selected this week's winner, Cat Davis, who will receive a limited edition TechFlash t-shirt.
