The march is on for WhitePages, which is stepping up its attack on Groupon, Living Social and other so-called daily deal Web sites. The Seattle company today announced that it has opened its DealPop service in San Francisco, following an expansion earlier this month in Los Angeles. WhitePages unveiled DealPop, which allows users to sign up to receive daily promotions from local restaurants, retailers and bars, in Seattle in July.
The new San Francisco offering is starting out with deals on yoga, gelato, dance and more. DealPop is similar to Groupon and Living Social, though no minimum number of people are required to participate in the offering in order to ensure the deal.
DealPop has another ace up its sleeve. It can build off the existing traffic base at WhitePages, which attracts about 20 million visitors per month. The company said it is also analyzing business listings and local search information from WhitePages to determine the best places to target for daily deal coupons.
