Amazon's Tom Nissley
Tom Nissley is a book nerd. And that knowledge is paying big dividends. Nissley, the editor of Amazon.com's book blog Omnivoracious, is on one heck of a hot streak on the game show Jeopardy. The Ballard resident won again tonight, making it six straight and bringing his total tally to $184,203, according to MyBallard.com.
Here's the Final Jeopardy question which Nissley nailed tonight: "Thomas Huxley & Samuel Wilberforce were among the Oxford Museum speakers debating this theory June, 30th 1860."
Know the answer?
In a blog post earlier today, Nissley said he's been encouraged by all of the notes and emails he's received from friends. He also explains where all of that knowledge comes from.
"And luckily on Jeopardy! all you often need is not to have read the book in question, but just read about it, in, say, a New York Review of Books article about its author, which is, I have to confess, the source of about two-thirds of all my knowledge," he writes.
Interestingly, Nissley isn't the first Seattle area resident to make a mark on Jeopardy. The all-time record holder on the show is Ken Jennings, an Edmonds man who won 74 consecutive contests on Jeopardy in 2004 and pulled in more than $2.5 million in winnings.
