Groupon has tapped former Amazon.com executive Jason Child as its chief financial officer, a hire which comes just a few weeks after the fast-growing daily deal site turned down a buyout offer from Google.
“Groupon is one of the most amazing businesses I have ever seen,” said Child in a press release announcing the move. “I am thrilled to join a great team that is attacking one of the biggest opportunities in e-commerce today.”
Child is the former vice president and chief financial officer of Amazon.com's international unit. According to his LinkedIn profile, Child has worked at Amazon.com since 1999 when he joined as controller for the company's German site. Before that, he worked at Arthur Anderson.
Child and his family have relocated from Seattle to Chicago where Groupon is based. The company operates in more than 300 markets and boasts more than 40 million subscribers, according to Bloomberg.
The move also comes after Amazon.com invested $175 million in Groupon rival Living Social.
