Seattle startup HomePipe Networks Inc. has closed on $1.1 million in funding from a group of private investors.

The funds will allow HomePipe, which develops applications for mobile devices and computers that allow users to access data from their home computers, to grow its subscription base, co-founder and CEO Chris Hopen said.
HomePipe has about 100,000 subscribers, who pay $23.99 a year for the service. So far, HomePipe has been focused on their platform. With the new investment, the company can broaden its focus, Hopen said.
“What we are really doing is trying to gear up on the marketing side and get our name out there,” Hopen said.
The three new investors are lead by Mark DiSalle, founder of Scout Analytics. DiSalle was in investor in Seattle mobile startup Cequint, which sold for $112.5 million in September.
Hopen said HomePipe also is working on developing partnerships with other companies that are interested in using HomePipe’s service as an add-on for their customer base.
The $1.1 million announced Tuesday is in addition to funding HomePipe raised a year ago.
HomePipe’s broad spectrum of storage and sharing competitors includes PogoPlug from Cloud Engines, based in San Francisco, which makes a device that allows users to access their files from anywhere. But Hopen said HomePipe is different because his service does not require people to store their data through cloud storage.
HomePipe launched in 2009, and Hopen self-funded the launch. In March 2010, HomePipe reported raising $215,000 from eight angle investors out of a $500,000 offer, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Shortly afterwards, HomePipe unveiled the company’s Secure Home Access service that allows customers to access their photos, movies and other digital files from their home computers with laptops, smartphones and netbooks.
