The Windows Phone 7 update -- codenamed "Mango" -- due out this year will be chock full of tools to increase productivity, new IT features and a bunch of new apps, said Microsoft's Paul Bryan on the Windows Phone blog.
Details of the operating system update, due out later this year, were revealed at the opening day of Microsoft's TechEd 2011 conference for developers and IT pros.
Bryan, the senior director of business experience for the Windows Phone team, said Mango will help business customers stay productive on the go.
Here's a rundown of some of the new features:
Users will be able to save and share Office documents through Office 365 and Windows Live SkyDrive.
The update will also include 'pinnable' email folders that allow users to attach a folder or RSS feed to the start screen for quick access and conversation view, which organizes emails by conversation.
Users will be now be able to search their email server for older emails no longer stored on the phone. Also, users will be able to access Lync, Microsoft's unified communications product, which enables video/audio conferencing, instant messaging and allows users to see when their co-workers are online. Lync will be available via a free app from the Windows Phone Marketplace.
Bryan said Mango will also offer new features for IT: complex (alpha-numeric) password support, Information Rights Management support for protecting e-mails and Office documents, and support for access to hidden corporate Wi-Fi networks.
As for apps, Bryan said the Windows Phone team expects that over 16,000 apps will available in the Windows Phone Marketplace by the time of the release, slate for the end of 2011.
