Google’s Android smartphone platform continues to grab market share in the U.S., while Microsoft continues to slip, according to the latest comScore report.
Android grew 6 percentage points to 34.7 percent market share in the U.S. , while RIM ranked second with 27.1 percent, according to comScore. Apple grew 0.5 points to 25.5 percent share. Microsoft has 7.5 percent, nearly a percentage point decline from the previous quarter.
Overall 72.5 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during the three months ending in March 2011, that’s up 15 percent from the preceding three-month period.
In February, Microsoft and Nokia announced a deal to work together to challenge the Apple iOS and Google Android.
