Best-selling author Shaun Morey's "Wahoo Rhapsody" is being published by AmazonEncore on July 5.
Amazon is wasting no time cranking out books under its inhouse publishing imprints. The Seattle ecomerce giant announced Monday that it will publish 32 books in late summer and early fall through AmazonEncore, AmazonCrossing and Thomas & Mercer.
Amazon said the titles will be available in print format on Amazon.com, as well as via national book chains and independent book sellers. Electronic versions also will be available for Kindle.
Amazon announced 32 new titles, including author Shaun Morey’s “Wahoo Rhapsody,” and “King of the Road” and “One Dead Hen” the third and fourth installments in the Mangel series by Charlie Williams.
Last Month, Amazon rolled out Thomas & Mercer, the fifth imprint from Amazon Publishing, as the Seattle ecommerce giant goes deeper into the publishing business.
Previously, Amazon rolled out Montlake Romance, a publishing venture that features romance novels, joining AmazonEncore, AmazonCrossing and Powered by Amazon.
Amazon is likely to encounter plenty of resistance, especially from established publishing houses. Many are owned by larger corporations with deep pockets. They have durable business relationships and strong brand identities that will make them difficult to dislodge.
But Amazon is innovative and profitable, with an enormous amount of information about its customers and their preferences. Its online business model makes Amazon a tough competitor on price.
