Amazon.com allows authors to publish electronic books for free for its Kindle book reading device. But that's causing some problems: Spam books clogging the system.
Forbes reports that some "authors" can publish up to 20 books a day on Amazon's Kindle since the process is free, similar to spam email jamming mailboxes. Some are recommending that Amazon charge for its book-publishing service.
And with Amazon's growing book business, including publishing and selling, the book spam problem only promises to get worse.
According to Reuters, thousands of ebooks, are being published through Amazon's self-publishing system each month. But technology has changed how these books are published, allowing for more "spam" ebooks to clog up Amazon's system.
The quick books are built with Private Label Rights, or PLR content, content that can be bought cheaply online then reformatted into a digital book. The self publishers of these books are listed for sale, often for 99 cents.
