Buuteeq, a digital marketing firm for hotels, has closed a $3.5 million Series A round, bringing total funding to $5 million. The round was led by Mike Galgon, co-founder of the online advertising agency aQuantive, and angel investor Geoff Entress. Benaroya Capital and other angels also participated.
The Seattle startup launched its digital marketing system in January to help independent hotels attract guests. Buuteeq's subscription-based digital tools let hotels easily create and manage web, mobile and Facebook sites, promotions and reservations, all from one place.
"Independent hotels have thus far been left out of the software and digital marketing revolutions," said Galgon. "buuteeq gives these hotels, for the first time, the power of a major hotel web and mobile presence without the cost or the headaches. More consumers find them, choose them, and book with them directly. This means both revenue and profits for the hotels, and a powerful value proposition for buuteeq."
The company said it will use the new funding to expand the capabilities of its digital marketing system and drive worldwide sales. As of January, the firm had 12 employees spread between China, Texas, Washington and Chile.
The company says that using its content-management system requires no design or development experience, and the tools are branded with the hotel's logo and color scheme. The Buuteeq reservation system also integrates directly with a hotel's existing system.
Some tools (like a Facebook service) are available for free, but most are offered on a subscription basis. Prices range from $3,000 to $15,000 annually.
The company was founded in 2010 by former Microsoft executives Forest Key and Adam Brownstein. Brownstein was the Director of Business Development in the Microsoft Entertainment and Devices Division, and played a key role in the launch of the Surface tabletop computer. Key was the Senior Director in the Microsoft Server & Tools Division.
