Just a few days after the news broke that California-based Electronic Arts was buying PopCap Games for up to $.13 billion, the Seattle gaming company has announced that it has landed a deal with Sony Ericsson to have Plants vs. Zombies and other games pre-loaded on the mobile phone maker's smartphone models.
PopCap games including Plants vs. Zombies, Peggle and Chuzzle will be embedded Sony Ericsson Xperia mini and mini pro smartphone models slated to be on sale later this summer, the companies announced.
The partnership means that PopCap’s game will be available on Android devices in Europe for the first time. Terms of the deal were not announced.
Chuzzle will be pre-loaded in its entirety. Other PopCap hits such as Peggle and Plants vs. Zombies will be available in unlimited trial modes. Smartphone owners will have the option to buy the full edition of the games via an integrated billing service.
“We are delighted to partner with Sony Ericsson to fulfill our promise to Android users and bring PopCap’s hit mobile games to an ever-widening base of smartphone users,” Giordano Bruno Contestabile, PopCap’s senior director of global product and business strategy for mobile, said in a statement “As the Android ecosystem matures, PopCap is committed to providing best-in-class game experiences for Android game players.”
