Microsoft said happy birthday via animation to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Linux kernel.
Over the years, Microsoft has had tumultuous relationship with the Linux operating system and the animation doesn't shy away from that, showing first a penguin throwing a rock at the Windows logo.
Another memorable scene is Bill Gates scaring the penguin by wearing a pumpkin on his head, a reference to the infamous Halloween Documents, which detailed ways to disrupt the progress of open source software, specifically Linux.
The video ends on a positive note though, suggesting that perhaps Microsoft is looking to calm the waters. However, as Ars Technica notes, Microsoft's aggressive patent stance toward Linux vendors could still prevent any future collaboration.
The video was reportedly shown during Jim Zemlin's keynote speech at the LinuxCon conference. Zemlin is the executive director for the Linux Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering the growth of the the operating system.
