Google Offers has expanded to Seattle and several other cities to compete with Amazon, Groupon and others in the daily deals space.
The Seattle offers include discounted tickets to The Seattle Aquarium. Google Offeres also has expanded to Boston, D.C., Denver and Austin, Texas.
With Google Offers, participating businesses receive 80 percent of their revenue from the deal in the first four days.
Google, Amazon and others are expanding their daily deals offerings at a time when some of the luster has been worn off the online shopping deals.
Groupon this week has canceled its IPO roadshow and is reassesses its plans to go public. Groupon has attributed the change in plans to market volatility, but additional pressure could be coming from an SEC probe into an internal email leaked in late August, which could violate the SEC’s “quiet period” rule.
According to a recent study, over the next few years, the daily deal sites will have to settle for less revenue because it will be harder for Groupon and the others to find enough offerings to keep their customers coming back
In June, Amazon.com launched its daily deals offerings called AmazonLocal. AmazonLocal is now available in 30 cities, including New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami and Seattle,
Amazon is aggregating deals from LivingSocial, a coupon site that Amazon invested $175 million in last December. Amazon said it also is working with other companies to “source deals” for customers.
