Livemocha, the Seattle-based online language learning service, is now offering free language learning through the Seattle Public Library system.
Seattle will be used as a testbed for a larger launch nationwide with public libraries. Already, 68 library branches across the country serving 2 million patrons are using the service.
The service is available to all 600,000 Seattle library patrons from home or at any of the 28 libraries.
“In our extensive work with libraries across the country it’s become apparent that those who carry library cards have a thirst for learning,” said Livemocha CEO Michael Schutzler. “Livemocha is like a giant World Atlas filled with people and languages, and we encourage our members to become virtual tourists through language and cultural exploration.”
