Microsoft’s Bing is holding on to its third place spot in the search engine market, but it edging closer to Yahoo in the latest comScore report.
Bing still holds 14.7 percent of the search engine share – unchanged from August. Google, with nearly two-thirds of the search market, experienced a slight uptick of 0.5 percent to 65.3 percent. Second-place Yahoo lost 0.8 percent to drop to 15.5 percent share.
Microsoft signed a deal with Yahoo in July 2009. Under the deal, Bing powers the Yahoo search engine and Yahoo is responsible for selling ad space – all in an effort to bring down Google’s search dominance. Microsoft spends an estimated $5 billion a year in this endeavor.
