This post has been updated.
Seattle-based Cozi, which provides an online calendar and organizational service, has raised $2.5 million from existing investors.
The $2.5 million is part of a larger $7.1 million debt round, according to an SEC filing. The company previously raised $21 million from backers that include newspaper giant Gannett Co.
Cozi's free service allows busy families to share calendars, shopping lists, photos and more. The service can be accessed from any desktop computer, BlackBerry iOS or Android-based device so families can stay organized on the go. It also includes email or text-message reminders about upcoming events like baseball games and parent-teacher conferences.
Cozi had 3 million registered users as of June, when it set a Guinness World Record for the longest line of rubber ducks.
The Seattle startup was founded in 2005 by a group of former Microsoft, Amazon and Expedia executives, and is headed by Robbie Cape, a Microsoft veteran.
I’ve reached out to Cozi for more information on what it plans to do with the new funding.
Update: Cozi CEO Robbie Cape said the company will use the new funding to expand internationally, integrate meal planning into its calendar and shopping services, and build on its new Gold subscription feature, which lets users use Cozi without ads for $5 per month.
Cape said the company is getting ready to launch the meal planning feature in the next month.
"As you can see from the Cozi Dinner Club, we are committed to helping families solve their daily 'what’s for dinner' dilemma," he said. "Following that commitment, in the next month we will release the first version of Cozi’s “Dinner” functionality that will help families plan and manage their meals for the week"
Cape declined to name any investors, but said they are a mix of angel, international and strategic investors. The company has grown to 34 employees and says it has 4.4 million registered users, one million of whom use the site on a daily basis.
