Intellectual Ventures has sued Motorola Mobility, saying that the company is infringing on its patents.
The Bellevue-based firm run by Microsoft’s former chief technology officer Nathan Myhrvold has been signing licensing deals with top smartphone makers, according to The Wall Street Journal’s All Things D blog.
In September, Wistron Corp. inked a long-term licensing deal with Intellectual Ventures, giving the Taiwan electronics giant rights to the technology patents held Intellectual Ventures.
Intellectual Ventures’ patent holdings -- consisting of more than 35,000 intellectual property assets, according to the news release -- has raised concerns in the industry over the potential for the company to wield the portfolio to extract undue royalties from technology companies who run afoul of the patents.
Myhrvold has pushed back against claims that he is a patent troll.
