A couple of former Expedia executives are launching a new website called Fitropolis to help people find the best gym or yoga studio.
The goal is to become the TripAdvisor for fitness, according to co-founders Troy Kaser and Jenne Pierce, who said they are taking their experience building a customer-friendly user interface from the online travel world and applying it to the fitness space.
Fitropolis has more than 250 profiles of Seattle fitness providers, from big box gyms to a Zumba class an instructor teaches out of a martial arts studio. Gyms or studios are searchable by address, ZIP code or neighborhood. The site also offers deals and lets users read and write reviews.
Fitropolis -- which Kaser and Pierce are self-funding -- plans to expand to the Eastside.
Pierce was vice president of product at Expedia. Kaser is a former Expedia vice president of engineering. Both founders have a passion for fitness and have tried new classes in hot yoga and boxing.
In addition to gyms and yoga and Pilates studios, Fitropolis offers guides to other fitness options such as Zumba classes at dance studios, yoga classes taught at community centers and outdoor boot camps run in local parks.
“Seattle has an amazing range of fitness options,” Pierce said. “Yet as consumers we were frustrated by how difficult it was to find them. Many providers simply aren’t listed on directory sites, or aren’t easily found in search engines.”
