Amazon has gotten a toehold in India by beginning a shopping service called Junglee, which takes potential buyers to other sites that sell products.
The website has the look and feel of Amazon's site, with offerings for Kindle, books, electronics, video games, toys, and jewelry.
Bloomberg reports that Indian laws prevent sellers like Seattle online retail giant from selling multiple brands in India, where the online shopping market is expected to triple in the next three years.
Amazon also is planning to open a distribution center in India, to sell goods online to the world's second-most populous country.
The center will be in Mumbai, India's biggest city, according to job listings on Amazon's India careers website. The posting was reported by Reuters.
