The number of interactive media companies in the Seattle area has more than doubled over the past five years, rising from 150 in 2007 to 350 currently.
That's one of the facts in early results from a new economic impact study released at Washington Interactive Network’s annual Power of Play conference in Seattle.
The study estimated revenues from regional games companies at $9.7 billion in 2010, up from $4.1 billion in 2006, for compounded annual growth of 25 percent. It also showed that local jobs in the industry have grown between 4 percent and 4.5 percent over the past five years, with a total of between 16,500 and 17,500 interactive media employees in the Seattle area now.
The full report on the study, conducted by Seattle’s Community Attributes Inc. and funded by enterpriseSeattle and a grant provided by the Jobs and Innovation Accelerator Challenge, is scheduled to be released in April.
A 2010 study conducted by Community Attributes found that Seattle, San Francisco and San Jose, Calif., are the top cities for interactive media.
