John Thompson
Microsoft Corp. said Monday it has added John Thompson to its board of directors.
The Redmond-based company (NASDAQ: MSFT) now has a 10-member board.
Thompson is the CEO of a private company based in San Jose, Calif., called Virtual Instruments, which makes products that ensure the performance and availability of applications deployed in virtualized and private cloud computing environments.
He was previously the chairman and CEO of Symantec Corp. from 1999 to 2009.
"John brings a wealth of experience, from enterprise customers to individual consumers, as well as the insights that come from running a successful large global software company and a fast-emerging startup. He will be a great addition to our board," Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's CEO, said in a prepared statement.
